Where, when and how to vote in DuPage County

Early voting: now through Nov. 2

Any DuPage County voter can vote at any early-voting site. Five sites have been open since Thursday, Sept. 24: Addison Township Office, Bartlett Community Center, Downers Grove Village Hall, the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton (Building 5) and the Naperville Municipal Center. They're open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays through Friday, Oct. 16, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Starting Monday, Oct. 19, all 24 sites are open every day through Monday, Nov. 2: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Two are in shopping malls: Fox Valley Mall in Aurora and Yorktown Center in Lombard.

Not registered, or moved? You can register and vote the same day at any early-voting site from Oct. 19 through Nov. 2, or at your polling place on Election Day. Until Oct. 19, you can do it on weekdays at the Clerk's Election Division, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton.

Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 3

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. In DuPage County you vote at your own precinct's polling place; there are 248 polling places for the county's 600 precincts. If you're in line at 7 p.m., you can still vote. Enter your address in the guide above to find your polling place.

Voting by mail

Applications for a mail ballot must reach the Clerk's Election Division by Thursday, Oct. 29. Apply online.

Return your ballot by mail, postmarked by Election Day; it must arrive by Nov. 17. On Election Day, every polling place has a mail-ballot drop box, open until 7 p.m. You can also hand your ballot in at the Clerk's Election Division, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.

The Clerk says it keeps other mail-ballot drop boxes, but as of Oct. 14 it hadn't posted where they are for this election. Check its vote-by-mail page.

If there's a problem with your ballot's envelope, the Clerk's office will contact you; you have 14 days after the election, until Tuesday, Nov. 17, to fix it. Track your ballot with BallotTrax.

What to bring

You don't need ID to vote in DuPage County if you're already registered. If you're registering when you vote, bring two forms of ID, one showing your current address.

Getting there

Where a Pace bus stop or Metra station is within a quarter-mile of an early-voting site or polling place, the guide names it and the routes that serve it, and the directions links open your maps app with transit directions. Many sites have no Pace or Metra stop that close.

Accessibility

The Clerk says every early-voting site complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Every polling place has a wheelchair-accessible voting booth, and touch-screen ballot-marking devices are at every early-voting site and polling place. You can bring a relative or friend to help you vote, or ask two election judges, one from each major party.

If a disability keeps you from getting into your polling place, you can vote curbside: ask the Election Division in writing by 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, or, on Election Day, send word to the election judges when you arrive. Questions: 630-407-5600.
